About the Course

Uzbekistan is actively integrating into international markets. Developments such as the EU–Uzbekistan Enhanced Partnership and Cooperation Agreement, the conclusion of bilateral market-access negotiations in the context of Uzbekistan’s WTO accession, and Uzbekistan’s GSP+ (Generalised Scheme of Preferences Plus) status create favourable conditions for expanding bilateral trade and business relations. These developments open up new opportunities for Uzbek businesses to reach EU consumers through cross-border e-commerce. Taking advantage of these opportunities and securing successful and sustainable access to the EU consumer market require an understanding of the EU rules governing online commercial practices, digital contracting, and contracts for digital products and services.

Against this background, EU Digital Consumer Law is designed for companies established in Uzbekistan that conduct or plan to conduct commercial activity in the EU digital markets and directed at end consumers. This may include both supplying digital products (digital content or goods with digital elements) or services and selling physical goods or non-digital services online.

The course is organised around a central practical question: What EU legal requirements must an Uzbek business meet when engaging in consumer transactions in the EU digital market? Rather than examining EU legislation law by law, the course approaches it from the perspective of the commercial process and provides participants with a practical understanding of the EU rules governing the lifecycle of consumer transactions – from marketing and the design of online offers, through contract formation and performance, to consumer remedies, termination, and enforcement. The participants will learn when EU consumer law applies, what rights EU consumers enjoy, what corresponding obligations businesses bear, and which requirements must be taken into account when planning commercial practices, drafting contracts, and designing websites and digital interfaces.
